Apple’s
senior VP of services, Eddy Cue, stated that creating a search engine
to compete with Google would be financially unfeasible, costing billions
and taking years. This statement was made in a filing related to the
DOJ’s antitrust case against Google.
The
DOJ and Google have agreed to potentially change their partnership,
with Google proposing a ban on long-term exclusivity deals with Apple.
Cue argues that ending the search deal would harm Apple, as it would
lose revenue-sharing or have to remove Google Search, which would negatively impact users.
Cue
also highlighted that Apple’s focus on privacy makes it economically
risky to develop a search engine. He emphasized that AI chatbots are the
future of search and warned that DOJ remedies could hinder Apple’s
ability to serve its users.
