Australian scientists have pioneered a groundbreaking pest control method using genetically modified mosquitoes. Male mosquitoes are engineered to carry semen that kills females after mating, targeting diseases like malaria and dengue fever.

Dubbed the "toxic male technique," this strategy aims to curb mosquito populations rapidly while leaving other species unharmed, says researcher Sam Beach from Macquarie University.
Early trials on fruit flies showed remarkable success, with females' lifespans drastically reduced. Upcoming tests will ensure safety for humans and the environment before implementation.
