Joby Aviation has achieved a major milestone by successfully flying the world’s first all-electric tilt-rotor eVTOL aircraft with a pilot. The flight included vertical takeoff, smooth transition to horizontal flight, and vertical landing—all in one mission.
The aircraft, called the S4, is powered by six tilt-rotors. It reached a top speed of 200 mph and flew as high as 15,000 feet. This test flight is a big step toward getting FAA approval and launching commercial operations.
Joby plans to start its air taxi service in Dubai by the end of 2025, putting the company ahead in the global race to launch electric air taxis.
